What's the deal?!? It's not a palindrome, and it doesn't map into anything cool in binary. Although, I guess it's cool that it's a legal octal number...

True, but it is big and round. It came up when I was in a parking lot, which increased my temptation to note it.

speaking of odometers, and therefore driving...

how long is the drive to pittsburgh? and what is there to do in said city?

Approximately 300 miles. Of course, Rochester and Pittsburgh are both large places. Are you going for something specific, or purely to sightsee?

I would recommend the Andy Warhol Museum without hesitation. It's on the North side of the Allegheny near downtown. On the South side of the Point you'll find Mount Washington with its inclined railways up to an amazing view of the golden triangle.

Head out 376 to Oakland and you'll be in the neighborhood that hosts Pitt and CMU and a monstrous Carnegie Library with attached museum and concert hall. The Phipps Conservatory is hosting a bunch of Chihuly right now, which is quite spectacular.

That'll also put you near Squirrel Hill, which is a neat shopping district. Further out 376 is Monroeville. If you're a fan of Dawn of the Dead, you'll want to see Monroeville Mall. Otherwise, not so much.

just to sightsee. but i think there is a football game the weekend we want to go because every single hotel downtown is booked.

so it's like a 4 hour drive?

'dawn of the dead' is one of my most favoritest movies ... EVER.

I don't think you can get there in four. My very best time ever was just under five. But then, I stop a lot.

You might consider staying in Monroeville. It's one of the exits from the Turnpike, you're well-connected to downtown and Oakland, and the mall is there. You might also consider Cranberry, which is where 79 and 76 meet. 279 would give you good access to downtown, but not much else. I have an east-side bias because that's where I always lived. If there's something cool to the North, I don't know about it.
