Do Jumbo Jets Have Odometers?

I noticed at lunchtime today that my odometer read 74,740 miles. 074740 is pretty good, but 74747 loomed. Sadly, I didn't look at my odometer again until 74,750. I did, however, get to see 7:47:47 PM on one of my clocks.

02:03:05 on 05-06-07

May 6th, 2007 (06:11 pm)

Drat and double drat. Today is 05-06-07. I wanted to get a picture of 02:03:04. Even though none of my clocks display a year, I could at least get the day and the seconds. I didn't stay up for the one this morning, so I had to get a picture in the afternoon if I was going to get it at all. I had the camera lined up, I'd taken some practice shots to figure out the lighting, and was ready to go. Unfortunately, my camera isn't too fast when it comes to macro mode. Thus, I have only this photo to show:

A License to What?

My car's odometer hit triple-07 today. MI6 agents with a license to kill supposedly have "double-0" licenses, including the infamous 007 assigned to James Bond. What kind of license would agent 070707 get?

Someone Else's Odometer: This Is True

March 20th, 2007 (11:58 pm)

It's not often that I report anyone else's odometer events, but I'll make an exception tonight. This week, Randy Cassingham published the 666th issue of his newsletter. This Is True is a weekly summary of lost-in-the-cracks news stories boiled down to their humorous essence. Each item gets a funny headline, a single paragraph, and an extra tagline. This week, Randy celebrated the milestone by using only stories that involved a multitude of sixes. If you need a weekly dose of humor in your mailbox, you'll have trouble doing better than True.

PS: My luggage tags came from one of True's offshoots: the Get Out of Hell Free card.

This afternoon, I got in my car and noticed that my odometer read 69,396 at 2:42. Sadly, by the time I was able to get my phone's camera into photo mode and pick a good exposure level, it was 2:43.

A Good Day for Numbers

December 21st, 2006 (11:50 pm)
Mood: geeky

Today was 12-21. I saw my odometer hit 68,068 and 68,086 while talking to [info]mab42. When I went shopping tonight, the total was $64.16. Two powers of four in one total! Better than that, its prime factorization is 24 * 401, and 401 turns out to be an absurdly interesting number according to Wikipedia. In addition to being prime itself, it's the sum of the primes in the range [43, 71] and the sum of the primes in the range [29, 61]. Whee!

I got 67,876 on the regular odometer tonight. In addition to the symmetry, there was the fact that all motion was stepwise. By luck, the trip odometer was at 888 at the same time! Sadly, the 67,876 didn't survive to 888.8.

Today's odometer readings were loaded with sixes and sevens. This morning, I caught the trip odometer on 677.6 when the main odometer was on 67,666. Tonight I got to see 67,676. Wheeeeee!
